Hey,

I guess I'm not that new, I got most of the basic terms down and some basic strategies.

I typically like to play World Maps, and my countries of choice are normally Australia, the USA (if no one else chooses before me) or something like China.

I was curious, for a guy like me, who likes to play out of Australia and the USA on Perfect Defense, what should I be developing first? Infantry right away? Or like what I normally do, develop masses of tanks and transport vessels to go annex nearby countries.

Do I develop a naval fleet? Do I focus on expansionism..? Capital hopping? Give me some tips? (*Note I'm somewhat an impulsive buyer with money within the game, tips to reduce chances of getting debt?)

Thanks guys.

If you like to play PD, I wouldn't recommend austrailia for a start, the best places are countries which have high reinforcements, and are in more populated areas, such as Europe and Northeastern US, as these give your slow inf the best scope.
Asses your opponents and base what you build based on that, and aim to have 100% chance of taking every city you attack, so send massive overkill where another opponent may take it. Always take caps first, and leave other cities to when you have the chance to take them.

If there are no opponents nearby, build tanks, but only when you have lots of spare money. If you're pushing it for money build inf and use these to expand. With PD, it's more cost efficient to expand with inf than with tanks, but slower, as you need more inf per city than you would need tanks, and balancing these factors depend on your income and the disposition of opponents. Generally, if there is militia in a city, send 1 more inf then there are militia against it to take it, and if the city contains inf, send twice as many inf as there are neutral inf. (inf are infantry btw)

With PD, you want to do damage from a defensive standpoint rather than an offensive standpoint. Predict which cities your opponent will attack, and then stack inf there, so their units die, and then they're open to attack. This is the basis of all PD playing, stack inf to defend, then advance, then defend against new attacks, then advance some more. When you do attack use inf, and tanks only if you have enough spare money. Inf aren't the best attackers, so make big stacks to take things. Attacking with inf gives the advantage of almost entirely preventing the city being retaken next turn. If you run low on reinforcements, just try and defend as much as possible until the next reinforcement turn, and don't worry if you appear to make no progress, as you can do massive damage on the defensive. Try make sure that at the end of each turn inf are in cities, as they can't defend anything if they're out in the open. Use transports to facilitate this where possible, although try not to build many airtransports, as this is very expensive. Practice using airtransports to move 2 loads of inf each turn, by reusing them, and so on.

If you play PD you should have no problem with money, as it's one of the cheapest strats to play. Manage the amount of tanks and airtransports you build carefully, and always use inf as the priority unit, as it can do everything you need, if you're careful with how you use them. If money is low, fall back on producing inf. For travelling over water, use inf on transports, but defend these with destroyers so they arn't sunk (inf on transports cannot defend the transport when it is at sea). In the ends, managing economy just takes practie, but inf cost half that of tanks, so it's easier for you.

The most important upgrades for PD are expendable inf and faster inf. However these are 2 of the 4 most expensive in the game, and so still a long way off. Focus on getting the basic upgrades first, so you're well grounded, and then save up for these when you hit late r5/r6.

Good luck.

And ignore Baby Jesus/Critical, he's just demanding he want's more upgrades in every post he comes across. Upgrades and sp isn't the most important thing, although it will be for a while for you until you get the basic upgrades, which will take until about the end of r4.

PS. Never buy anti-aircraft or any upgrades for it. These are literally useless in every way

Well, the reason I chose Australia once was because on the very first turn, in NSW, I believe, I was given 120 reinforcements to develop. I ended up winning the game, and took it as lucky, because I found a couple afterwinds.

Cheers,

That's odd ... I thought you were gonna say because you are nationalistic... or from that country... but anyways the 120 units might be given due to Late joining ...... basically you joining after the game started or after turn 1... Australia is just like almost any other country but weaker than some... And I don't recommend starting in it..

You should read some guides around the forum, you will learn about anything you need to know. Use the search button if needed, really, by reading guides you will learn whatever people would tell you here with more details and more things that will really help you.
About upgrades, after getting the basic upgrades such as sea trans. capacity, the most important upgrades, imo, are inf and marine upgrades, with the most important of all being faster inf even when playing more with marines and not infs.
Might be boring, but watching some good players dueling on youtube would be helpful or watching expansion videos. If you like PD, I think that Tesla had some very good videos for PD on youtube.
