What do you guys feel about the role that russia: volga plays in the east of europe+?
On one hand, it's extra income and production, especially if all its cities are captured.
However, on the other hand, it's far away from the main battle, so even with sm, the troops have to take 2 turns to reach.

I usually capture it and use the remaining units to take its cities..... it is good for income and i dont use it to produce that many troops if i can produce elsewhere.

Don't use an AT to take it though. Take the northern Russia Central City (forget the name), and go by foot from there.

If I am going to take Volga first turn I do use an air transport but I use it also to either attack South or wall it.

if youre a quantity strat like gw pd or gc you take it asap for the unit prod. For expensive strats like sm it is not a priority. But it is worth diverting a few extra resources to gradually capture it if you have them spare especially if the game is dragging on. Also if youre getting well funded and can effectively use the extra spawn. I've seen sm players take full volga before t5 and it takes so many resources away from the main battle(as you mentioned) that it is a bad play.

And it's broke as shit, since all those free militia take up upkeep, RC turn 2 means economy can't kick in fast, and you're turtling with your army spread everywhere since you overexpanded and have no money. Even GW doesn't skip RC unless necessary or its 1v1 East v West without threat of Turk screwing up your shit
