It's all about the practising religious, those are very few in all advanced countries except the US. Christianity being jewish religion they baptize you when you're young so you can't actually refuse it. I refer to the Russian mindset. Isn't it unique?

It does, i don't want my country to be associated with retarded zealots, like USA or Serbia.
Uhh, if you call "unique" the mindset of victims being bullied and opressed first by Mongols for 2 ages then by own government(which adopted Mongol methods of ruling the country) for about 6 ages, then yes, it's "unique". It has not much to do with Orthodoxy nowadays, more like with communism.

It slowly goes away, but most of the people still expect someone to say them what to do. Well, and it is not like Putin and other corrupt politicians give many political freedoms, also it is pretty hard to have business here. You can either have a normal western-style company or there will be a big chance that you will have to pay bribes to corrupt officials/racketeers, etc. Also, don't forget declining population and therefore - the lack of demand.

The US is very christian because of the reson were here, you probably know the story, but summed up pilgrims from great britain became tired of religious persecution and up and left to the new world- america. Then in the late 1700's they became pissed off over taxes and fought a war of independence, now we control the world. Copypasta from pediwikia: * Christianity: (59.9%[14] to 76.0%[4]) * Unaffiliated, including atheist or agnostic (15.0%[4] to 37.3%[14]) * Judaism (1.2%[4] to 2.2%[14]) * Islam (0.6%[4][5][6][14]) * Buddhism (0.5%[4] to 0.9%[15]) * Hinduism (0.4%) * Other (1.4%) So, "unaffiliated" is from 15 to 37 % (I think it is closer to 15 from expirience that USA give from the internet). And note that "unaffilated" just *includes* atheists and agnostics. That means, that most of "unaffilated" people just probably believe in another sort of Christianity, and the percent of atheists in reality is about 4-5 overall. P.S. Also, here are statistics from CIA factbook: Religions: Protestant 51.3%, Roman Catholic 23.9%, Mormon 1.7%, other Christian 1.6%, Jewish 1.7%, Buddhist 0.7%, Muslim 0.6%, other or unspecified 2.5%, unaffiliated 12.1%, none 4% (2007 est. 80% "affilated" Christians and 12% "unaffilated"

You can't talk about religious f* up things if you don't leave in a 3rd world country. Here in Brazil something like 95% of people are christians, which almost 20% protestants (the worst kind). They actually DECIDE the way the government actuates. Things like rights to abortion, homossexual marriage and legalizing marijuana are just treated like insane. And don't even think about going in the streets and saying you are agnostic (like I am) or atheist because you will automatically turn into "a bad person". To brazilian religious being a criminal is more acceptable than being an atheist. By the way, they will probably end their sermon saying they will "pray for your soul" .

Makes me wish there was a country on earth that accepted everyone for who they were, didnt have big government and was ran by the people for the people. But I know how you feel man, Ive been persecuted for shit like that, im pretty much pro-whatever-the-fuck-you-want-its-none-of-my-buisness, and because of that and the fact im agnostic ive been (on more than one occasion) been made a lesser, taken out of conversations, been beat up (by christfags of course) and most importantly through mddle school I wasn't allowed to voice my oppinion for it was as they put it "Crazy, lethal and unamerican". People can really make me sick sometimes.

Brazil doesn't have rights to abortion? For real? I can't understand why you need last two though, they seem really unnecessary.
That's pretty annoying I assume, one of the reasons I dislike religious people. Though, I think religion is more common for countries where people have no other hope to get their lives better (i.e., 3rd world countries), so they just believe in "God" and keep working/producing children. In Russia we have only a bit better quality of life than Brazil and way lower rate of religious people. Therefore, thanks to absense of religion or ideology in post-communist years we've got declining population and high suicide rates, I think.

I see alot of throwing around of the word 'agnostic' here. I think it's worth mentioning something: You cannot simply be 'agnostic'. Agnostic means that it is 'not possible to know' as opposed to 'gnostic'. In truth it's a cop out. Stating you're simply 'agnostic' allows you to take a position that isn't really a position at all. Now, I lived in all kinds of neighborhoods and I've never heard of people being beaten by theists for being an atheist. Personally, I find both militant atheists and zealous theists guilty of the same crimes: hypocrisy and intolerance. I am a deist myself and for all the times I've been slighted by other theists I've been slighted just as much by atheists. Neither 'side' is innocent. NOTE: You can be just 'agnostic' if you want to but that's basically saying that you don't think it's possible to know anything.

Yes, the true agnostic concept says that we will never find a way to know about an existance of a "god" or the origins of the world. That being said I can't really say I'm an agnostic, but, in my opinion it will take long years yet to humanity discover the truth about our existence, being it cientific or not, and it will happen many years after I've died, so it's just the same as it never "happened".

I wouldn't call Brazil a 3rd world country, though some parts of it are. In due time they shall change too since the quality of life and the economy is on the rise. I'm surprised you have so many protestants while you were under Catholic rule solely and you carried on the catholic trait, let alone that the protestants have power. Protestants should be the best christians you can get, keep in mind I don't speak of further Protestant herecies (check the new american ones) but of Anglicanism. Also, this:
Well it seems catholicism is too strong (catholicism is politically speaking the stricter of all major denominations).
God is one of the most useful social constructs but I won't expand on that. Religion does tend to have greater percentages in less developed countries and it's probably due to the low quality of life. However where things are actually shit (subsaharan africa) I don't know how many are truly religious or are religious so they can receive the aid. Also note that religion isn't so developed there yet. The declining population is because of the collapse of the Soviet union, instability and insecurity leads to population movements as it did in all of the eastern bloc, however that trend is declining itself now that the situation in Russian Federation gets better.
Also, you can be plain agnostic with the meaning the others give and you can only be a gnostic which is one of the most intriguing interpretations of Christianity, but they got genocided by the Byzantines. They are words with two meanings, one being a standard stand alone one and the other being a characterization. And the latter is a product of half educated imbeciles. >http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnosticism#.27Gnosticism.27_as_a_potentially_flawed_category >In 1966 in Messina, Italy, a conference was held concerning systems of gnosis. Among its several aims were the need to establish a program to translate the recently acquired Nag Hammadi library (discussed above) and the need to arrive at an agreement concerning an accurate definition of 'Gnosticism'. This was in answer to the tendency, prevalent since the 18th century, to use the term 'gnostic' less as its origins implied, but rather as an interpretive category for contemporary philosophical and religious movements. As I have seen this image in imageboards I am not surprised at its inaccuracy and half informed opinion. The bad thing is few people are familiar with linguistics and history. Gnostic theist makes no sense and it's redundant, it's a person who recognizes a god that recognizes this god? (assuming I use the wrong meaning too) Gnostic atheism is a self blowjob expression that makes no sense no matter how you define it. The agnostic atheism/theism is half valid.

Aristosseur's life all day, errryday. Oh and while you're all busy slagging off Christianity and the US for being a more devout nation than most developed countries, it didn't prevent them from becoming the greatest civilisation (I'm not saying best, just greatest) the world has ever seen. And if you're gonna deny that, then I think you need to take another look. Because fact of the matter is, religion in the western world has very minimal impact on the development of a country. In fact, the only major religion that some might argue holds back a country from developing properly is Islam, because it is a much more fundamental religion and, to a much greater extent than other religions today, hinders half of your potential workforce (women). So all you people saying "hurr americhrists so herp derp" can just keep on being jelly. In the meantime, the American economy and culture will keep shining out into the world as a beacon of hope and an example many countries wish to emulate.

Recognizability doesn't go hand to hand with quality. All of the shallow pop culture, consumerism and each for himself mindset is a product of american "culture". Superior is Austrian, they got a jazz scene and had a classical scene while no huge emphasis on earthly delights along with the humilitiaton of the human image exists. Critical acclaim what? By its own organizations? Frech and German cinema is better, same in music, even the pop shit one.
