Our game setting is set on holding the enemy home country for 3 turns. I moved into a weaker enemy's country and took over everything including annihilating him. I thought I won the game as my other enemies where too far off to stop me. Then next turn it was suddenly not his capital anymore and it wasn't counting towards "holding it", as he "left the game". So my question is: Does a defeated player automatically leave the game so annihilating him and holding his home country doesn't work? OR can a player be kicked of inactivity while another player (me in this case) was holding his home country?

If they leave or surrender its as if they are defeated ...but you have to beat all your enemies on the map, not only one. You say others were too far, meaning you still had enemies ...if everyone allies, the game ends because there is no one left at war. Other game settings may include total anihilation in which case capitals dont matter and you have to destroy all your enemies cities, or capture NEUTRAL setting ...here you would have to capture a specific country (which no one can pick at start) and hold it for x turns. In that case you would won a game by holding that one country.

You can defeat your enemy by killing all his units. When some player don't have any units on map he is defeated.

Thanks! Ah I think I get it. I was confused that with the victory condition saying "Capture enemy's home country and hold it for 3 turns" meant that you win the game if you capture an enemy's home country. And that the game would then end even if there are non-allies still alive. Woops. (EDIT: and in my scenario it was holding an enemy's country for 1/3 turns, then I thought he left or got autokicked for inactivity (?) - and I thought that foiled my victory. But instead he was annihilated and I guess it didn't matter )
