That is it gentlemen, ivan has confirmed that "buildings" will boost production. This general upgrade is just the framework for a new unit that boosts production:

General: Rally The Troops - 1250 SP
+1 unit reinforcement in General's city

Do we know if this will be their only function?

Nice. But how will that work? Since we'll be spending a reinforcement or two on producing the building. Now assuming it's 1 reinforcement used up, which is the +1 General thing. Do we get the extra reinforcements next turn, every turn, or just reinforcement weeks? And will buildings be costly like ATs or cheap(ish) like Infantry/Tanks?

Hopefully no. I hope to see some fixed immovable building like fortresses or bunkers with 0 movement, 0 attack, moderate to high defence, very high cost (equal to or more than an AT). HP will be high about 9 with no boost to it in IF. No population boosts though.
It'll have a niche in world games, and Europe late games to protect your capital or to prevent an enemy recapturing his capital.
It'll be weak against air and naval units(-1), strong against Infantry and tanks (+1)
As a given, it will be non-transportable.
Or you could branch out, and have anti-air bunkers, anti-ship bunkers, and anti-ground unit bunkers with their respective strength lying in their names.

No idea, currently the general bonus is broken.

The Unit cost will probably be left to map makers

No default cost being set by admins? Not going to be in default maps?

no, admins never add new units to the default map. but they may add restrictions to the cost of the unit in custom maps.

Am I the only one who thinks that this is a bad idea?

The concept of having a simple game was great IMO.... adding new mechanics is definitively bad.

This will make this game more skills. It just one more skill you have to learn if this is implemented

This will hurt the simplicity of the game though. That's definitively bad.

this won't be implemented in the default map. If you think custom maps are too complex, then don't play them
