There has been a bit of a discussion recently on the forums about how the competitive scene is dying, with an ever-decreasing amount of clan wars. No help comes from Ivan and Amok, who pretty much ditched the game instead of turning it into something useful, and many older players are leaving for good, thinning out the number of cw-ready people among clans. However, these problems can be (hopefully) mitigated or removed. Newer players can be taught how to cw and join in the competitive scene by older ones, and as such increasing the amount of competitive players. But doing this is quite tricky, since many new players join into RP and rarely get to join a competitive clan that wishes to teach them... So perhaps it would be best for all noob players wishing to join into competitive scene to put some sort of forum post or notification and (perhaps after some evaluation by their new home) get picked up by a clan that is active and capable enough to devoting its time to teaching those newbies. Also, it would be good to have new and updated forum posts with expansion and strategy guides so that new players can learn the ropes from the forums, and thus show competence to become accepted into a training clan. This is beneficial for the clan as well; with enough time, they will have a new, talented player who is (hopefully) loyal to them. But this is also a community effort, as many new players can be driven away from competitive by AW's general toxicity (so maybe calling a new player a retard when they screw something up isn't the best idea). Also, I believe that it's a hell of a good idea to make casual competitive. After all, it lets the competitive map scene expand a lot. I mean, you can't play a world CW with 4 min. timers! The world map is quite a dynamic area, and is also quite unexplored in comparison to EU+ and 3v3s. There is also another prominent advantage of casual cw: It's casual. That means that a group of 3 players from a clan can just pop on whenever they want, make their moves, and pop off. They don't have to have very active and overlapping schedules: most of the communication can be done via clan forum posts where teammates can discuss strategy. So why not try these suggestions out?

In my 1 and a half year of competitive play i have read over 30+ such posts..imagine the even older players reading the same wall of text over and over again

ik, I am in ENIGMA But my point is that the majority of competitive players play a modicum of casual at best, and definitely not cw...

Well if there's those 30+ posts, then maybe it's a good idea that people should try to implement, no?

Indeed. Maybe "competitive players" have to play CWs in quick mode, since showing off is more difficult in casual mode. Anyways, people still don't get it with the casual games: they are a possibility of keeping gaming up, even when you have less time to spend on AW and "just want to squeeze a game or just 30 minutes daily".

The issue being most people come to aw for the social interaction and competition just so happens to be part of that interaction. Casual takes everything that I hold dear in this game and throws it to the side. A casual cw is basically a game of chess, while a normal cw is fight club in the basement with Tweakers. See the diference? Even if that's not appealing to those of you who advocate for casual play and even some people will deny that's why they are here, but deep down those that stick around love the partnerships the companionism, the drama, and the egos. They may eventually get tired of a certain players attitude but they are here for the social mechanism that is complimented by competition.

Sure. ... till you have no more time to keep up the fight club and abandon the game completely. Also casual games can provide a sort of partnerships the companionism and drama and competition... but yes, not as "extreme" as in quick games.

I've never been in a casual CW, despite having an interest. The additional advantage of CW'ing casual is for those who have horrible connections, you can complete your turns and not let your clan mates down. Helly, i know it's a different world without the time pressure and ego /trash talk, but you mentioned social interactions. The social opportunities are there, and as you mentioned, casual games are more like chess, so you can pm moves and strategies and second guess one another prior to hitting 'end turn'. But you're right... CW drama in quick games no comparison.

First of all, welcome back! The difference is "just" that quick games are live and players have to interact (want to interact) and in casual games players have the option not to interact. Difference between "fight club" and "chess".

Indeed. Coalitions who engage in casual games do often post in their forums the CW, moves and strategies... not for a posteriori analysis but rather a priori discussion.

18.04.2017 - 17:01 Freeman Konto kustutatud The same a priori brainstorming and attack plan is done by each and every clan before quick cw. I guess casual players do it because they don't encounter themselves in game too often. It's not a superior way of communicating, but simply different.

In quick with a good team you gel with you don't need all that much discussion really, that which does need to be said can be done in the first min. For smaller maps only. If casual was fixed up a bit it would be great playing bigger maps. Played a few before, It's been pretty much abandoned for ages though.

In normal Games i don't interact with others, i am focused on my game. AtWar is like a chess game, normal Mode is like Blitz chess, casual like Mail chess (right term?), both use different "skills" even if it is the same game. What is missing, in my opinion, is a Mode compared to the normal chess games in leagues and championships. Not time per turn, time per game. Be honest, Atwar gets more and more complex with the duration of the game, the first expansion moves everyone can read and learn, it don't takes much time, later you have more city, more units, more possible moves...
